SK Gong Pasir Dungun launched a Present A Short Story ( P.A.S.S.) programme on Jul 27, 2016 at 11 am at the Dewan Iltizam, SK Gong Pasir.
The program was aimed at giving exposure to year 4 and 5 pupils on how to show their understanding of the the texts by telling the story orally. Besides it was also aimed at inculcating the reading habit and enhancing the pupils confidence to speak in public.
150 pupils from year 4 and 5 classes took part in the school english activity called P.A.S.S. The pupils had a chance to practice using the language by taking part in a few langusge based activities which were planned according to their abilities.
The program was officially launched by PPD Dungun District Language Officer, Mr Hamdan Ismail and the pupils were pleased when Miss Kate from San Francisco, USA was able not only to witness the launching of the program but to help facilitate the implementation of the activities.
Miss Kate who was SMK Seri Dungun English Teaching Assistant in 2012 was on her vacation to a few Asian countries and one of her destinations was Dungun, Terengganu, Malaysia.
We were truly impressed when she was willing to help us out without being paid. The credit should be given to the Ministry of Education, Malaysia for implementing the ETA program and not forgetting Terengganu State Education Department for the placement of the ETAs which had strengthened the bilateral ties between the two countries Malaysia and the USA.
Tuan Hj Hassan bin Abdullah who is the PTA Vice Chairman was also present. His presence showed that PTA / PIBG had been giving full commitment in the shared efforts of carrying out any school activities which would help develop the future human capital of our country.
P.A.S.S. ACTIVITIES
i - RETELL THE STORY ( 5 SINA VS 4 SINA – 6 contestants-3 from each class )
1. The contestants from each class will take turn to retell the story (The Crow and the Pitcher) using their own words.
2. The judge (Miss Kate) will reward marks accordingly using the adjudication form provided.
ii- RETELL WITH PICTURE CUES ( 5 KHALDUN VS 4 KHALDUN )
1. Each group will be given the same series of pictures of the story.
2. In group, the contestants will have to rearrange and put the mixed pictures in the correct order of the story.
3. Then, they will have to retell the story using their own words based on the series of pictures that have been arranged earlier.
4. The judge (Miss Kate) will reward marks accordingly using the adjudication forms provided.
iii- CHINESE WHISPER GAME + DICTATION ( 5 NAFIS VS 4 NAFIS - In groups of 6-1 group from each class )
1. The contestants sit in a straight line.
2. The first contestant will have to memorize the 1st sentence from the story in 1 minute.
3. Then, she will have to whisper the words to the 2nd contestant in 30 seconds.
4. The same thing continues till the 6th contestant.
5. Then, the 6th contestant will write the words he memorizes on the whiteboard to form a sentence.
6. The 1st step will be repeated until the time is up. (15 minutes allocated for the whole game)
